Ferrari Radiator Replacement: FAQ

Here at FerrariRadiators.com, we get a lot of questions from owners who are tired of dealing with their car’s cooling system. Whether you’re facing a sudden leak or just want to prevent future problems, a Ferrari radiator replacement is one of the most important upgrades you can make. Below, we’ve answered some of the most common questions we hear from our clients in our Los Angeles workshop. We hope this helps you understand the process and why our all aluminum, TIG welded radiators are the permanent solution to Ferrari cooling problems.

Product & Technical Specifications

What makes your aluminum radiator superior to the OEM Ferrari radiator?

It really comes down to the way they’re built. The original Ferrari radiator is a mix of an aluminum core with plastic end tanks, and it’s all sealed together with epoxy. Over time, with the intense heat from a Ferrari engine, that plastic gets brittle and the epoxy fails. It’s a known issue and the reason so many owners experience leaks. Our performance radiator is a completely different animal. We build the entire thing (end tanks, core, and all) from military grade aluminum. Every seam is TIG welded by hand, creating a single, solid piece. This gets rid of the original failure point entirely, so you get a far more durable and reliable Ferrari cooling system that can actually handle the heat.

What specific aluminum alloy do you use in your radiators?

We use a high grade, American sourced 3003 aluminum alloy. We didn’t just pick this alloy out of a catalog either. This alloy is specifically chosen for its excellent thermal conductivity (it gets rid of heat fast), its high strength to weight ratio, and its superior corrosion resistance. For a high performance radiator that’s going to live in a Ferrari, it’s the ideal material.

What does TIG welding mean, and why is it important for a Ferrari radiator?

TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding is a manual, high precision process that lets us create a pure, strong, and incredibly clean weld by fusing the parent metals together. For a Ferrari radiator, this is critical. A TIG welded seam becomes a permanent, leak proof bond that can endure intense vibration and pressure. It’s a world away from the weak epoxy seals on the OEM units, which are almost guaranteed to fail eventually.

Are your radiators furnace brazed or TIG welded?

That’s a great question, and the answer is both. We use a hybrid approach to get the best of both worlds. The internal radiator core is furnace brazed under a strict quality controlled process. This is the superior method for creating a strong, efficient radiator core. However, all the critical structural joints (including the end tanks, mounting brackets, and fittings) are manually TIG welded by our master fabricators. This approach ensures we get maximum core efficiency and ultimate structural integrity. It’s a more involved process, but it’s the right way to build a high performance radiator.

How much lighter is your aluminum radiator compared to the factory unit?

Our all-aluminum radiators are inherently lighter than factory units due to their construction. By eliminating heavier materials and plastic end tanks, they reduce overall weight while maintaining strength and durability. The exact difference varies by model, but the result is a lighter, more efficient component at the front of the vehicle. This contributes to improved balance and sharper response, offering a subtle but meaningful benefit in driving dynamics.

Performance & Cooling Benefits

How much will your radiator lower my Ferrari’s engine temperature?

Each model responds differently, but our performance radiators are engineered to deliver a meaningful increase of up to 25% in cooling efficiency. In real world conditions, this translates to temperatures that are less prone to rising in traffic and more stable during spirited driving. The result is a system that manages heat more effectively, recovers more quickly, and maintains a consistent operating range, providing greater confidence and supporting long term engine health.

What is B-Tube technology and is it used on all your models?

B-Tube technology improves cooling efficiency within each individual tube rather than changing the overall flow path. Instead of a conventional oval tube, it uses a specially engineered “B” shaped design that is seam brazed for greater strength, allowing for thinner, lighter aluminum construction without sacrificing durability. This internal structure increases heat transfer surface area and promotes more efficient coolant flow, delivering improved cooling performance within the same core space to all the radiators we produce.

Will installing your radiator solve my Ferrari 360 overheating problem?

In many cases, yes. The Ferrari 360 overheating issue is often linked to the failure of the plastic end tanks on the factory radiators. Our all aluminum, TIG welded replacement is designed to address this common failure point directly. By eliminating that weakness and improving overall cooling efficiency, it can significantly improve thermal stability in traffic and during spirited driving.

Is an aluminum radiator better than a copper/brass one?

While copper/brass is the traditional material, a modern, furnace brazed aluminum construction allows for wider tubes and a denser fin pack. This creates a radiator that is significantly more efficient, lighter, and stronger than any copper/brass equivalent. Upgrading your classic Ferrari to our aluminum radiator provides modern cooling reliability, which is essential for driving in modern traffic, without compromising the classic look.

How does your radiator prevent engine damage?

By maintaining a stable, optimal engine temperature, our radiator prevents the overheating that can lead to catastrophic failures like warped cylinder heads, blown head gaskets, and seized pistons. The Ferrari radiator replacement cost is a fraction of a potential five figure engine rebuild, making it a critical investment in your vehicle’s longevity.

Will this upgrade increase my Ferrari’s horsepower?

While a radiator itself does not add horsepower, it allows the engine to produce its full potential reliably. An engine suffering from “heat soak” due to an inefficient cooling system will have its ECU pull timing to protect itself, reducing power output. By ensuring a stable thermal environment, our performance radiator allows your engine to produce its maximum rated horsepower consistently and safely.

Installation & Fitment

Is your radiator a direct, bolt-in replacement?

Yes. Every radiator we design is a 100% direct fit, bolt in replacement for the factory unit. We 3D scan the OEM radiator and chassis mounting points to ensure all brackets, hose connections, and sensor ports are identical to factory specifications. No cutting or modification to your Ferrari is required.

Can I install the radiator myself, or do I need a Ferrari mechanic?

While the unit is a direct fit, we strongly recommend professional installation by a certified Ferrari mechanic. The most critical part of the process is correctly bleeding the air from the Ferrari cooling system, which can be very difficult without specialized vacuum-fill tools. An improper bleed can cause air pockets and lead to severe engine damage. For service in Southern California, we can recommend a trusted Ferrari service Los Angeles workshop.

Do I need to use a special type of coolant with your aluminum radiator?

You should always use a high quality, phosphate free coolant that is approved for use in modern aluminum engines and cooling systems. The specific type (e.g., HOAT) should match your Ferrari model’s factory recommendation. Never use older, silicate based green coolants, as they are not compatible with aluminum components.

Will this radiator work with my factory radiator fans and shroud?

Yes. Our radiators are designed to be fully compatible with the factory fan shrouds, electric fans, and all OEM sensors. It is a seamless integration with your existing factory components.

Ordering, Shipping & Returns

How long will it take to receive my radiator after ordering?
